Calvary Lutheran Church, up Mountain Peacock FarmWellington Founded 1996 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND The Calvary Lutheran Church is situated on a peninsula mountain in the Eastern part of Freetown, Wellington the Capital City of Sierra Leone. The congregation is set up the midst of largely Limba, Loko with few Mende and Temne whose major economic is local chacoal burning and fire wood producers, the women and children are sellers of the goods and most time involved in backyard garden for their living. Historically, this Church was established in 1994 at the Plateau of the Mountain. But due to the distance and location, it was not easy to attach an Evangelist to them either to get an Evangelist among themselves. This made the congregation, unfunctional, till 1996, when it was decided among themselves at community level to locate the congregation down the Mountain side, with this decision a temporary hut was constructed with bush sticks and mud, covered with a tempouline in August 1996. Finally, worship service started with a total number of seventy (70) people. This congregation was officially opened and dedicated on the 24th November 1996 by ELSSL. On that day sixty one (61) candidates were Baptised by Rev. Tom Barnett now Bishop of the ELCSL and Rev. Vivian Msomi who made a visit to Sierra Leone at that time and was fortunate to worship at Calvary Luthera Church on that day. CONFESSION OF FAITH This Church confesses the Triun- God, Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and the Gospel as the power of God for the Salvation of all who are believers. This Church here by accepts all the confessional faith of the ELCSL as stated in the constitution. LAND The Calvary Luthera Church is located on a flat ground of four and half (4½) town lot. This piece of land was donated to the Church by a family member of the congregation for Church building and other developmental programmes. During 1999, this congregation was abandon due to the January 6th invention of rebel into the City Freetown. Some members escape to neighboring countries and some were killed during the rebel war while other were taken away – women and children. DEVELOPMENT

Ahmed Bartholomew Kaimapo married with four (4) children. PROBLEMS / CONSTRAINS 1. We don’t have a structure for the school the school is presently using the Church building during the weaker days. The Church serves a dual purpose. Due to the roll the Church building cannot accommodate the kids in due course. 2. Lack of teaching and learning materials. 3. The major problem the church is facing now is lack of pews 4. Lack of storage facilities FUTURE PLAN In future we shall be planning to: 1. Construct personage 2. A health Centre (Clinic) 3.
